Winners of the ABAM Men’s Football Olympic.
IMPUR, SEPTEMBER 7 (MExN): In preparation for participation in the NBCC’s Sports and Scripture Engagement Olympics 2026, the Youth Ministry of Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) organised a Men’s Football Olympic from September 4 to 6 at Impur for the selection of players.
The tournament was inaugurated by ABAM President Rev Ayutemjen, who in his address as chief guest drew from 2 Timothy 4:7, stressing that discipline and determination were the hallmarks of true sportsmanship. He urged the participants to uphold fair play to ensure the success of the event.
The Youth Ministry stated that sport was a domain where holistic health was essential and said the Olympic initiative was aimed at building skills, discipline and spiritual formation to address challenges faced by youth. It also highlighted the importance of a healthy lifestyle in maintaining consistent performance.
Eight zonal teams took part in the tournament. Zone 4 emerged as the champion, while Zone 2 finished runner-up. Zone 4 captain Sentimong was adjudged ‘Player of the Tournament’ and the best goalkeeper award went to Medemmar of Zone 1.
The ABAM Youth Ministry expressed gratitude to the ABAM 2026 Football team coaches Bendangsunep, Associate Pastor, CABA, and Imsuyanger, Convener of 180 Degree Sports Ministry, KABA, for overseeing the selection of the official team. It also thanked the match officials for their role in the smooth conduct of the tournament, and running commentators Temsükaba, APY, Mokokchung Compound Baptist Church, and Imtisashi, APY, Alisüngküm Baptist Fellowship, for enlivening the matches.
Special acknowledgement was given to Kümlong Baptist Arogo Youth Ministry for donating trophies, which will serve as a perpetual running trophy, and to groups and individuals who contributed to the maintenance of the playground and facilities.
In his closing remarks, Rev Dr Moanungsang, Secretary of the Education and Literature Ministry, ABAM, congratulated all players for their participation and urged them to conduct themselves with discipline in every platform where they represent.
ABAM said it looked forward to seeing young people utilise their talents in ways that glorify God and benefit society.
