Athletics Federation of India (AFI) Vice President, Abu Metha attended the Executive Council Meeting of the AFI in Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands on February 14 to 15 last.
Metha, who is also the Chairman of the Modernisation Committee of the AFI, stated that the AFI Executive Council discussed and deliberated on multiple agendas that included strategic planning and preparations of the Indian team for the upcoming Asian and Commonwealth Games, the national calendar of athletics, development of talents at the grassroots level and development of modern infrastructure.
Other agendas included streamlining of state associations, use of modern technology and sports science in sports, and professionalising the eco-system of sports.
Special presentations were made by professional consultant groups and renowned resource persons in various fields including modern scientific approaches in athlete management and high performance strategies.
Metha also tabled the Annual Newsletter of the Nagaland Athletics Association to the National Executive. He informed that it was also an opportunity to share knowledge, create collaborations and formulate education programmes for the sports industry; including former legends like Bahadur Singh and Anju Bobby George.
Metha also informed that he had the opportunity to meet stakeholders and leaders in the tourism industry and interacted with tourism experience providers in the Andamans.
