DIMAPUR, JULY 19 (MExN): The ACAUT Nagaland has extended solidarity with the All Kohima Indane Distributors Association (AKIDA), stating that “the physical assault of the drivers of LPG carriers is akin to assault on frontline workers who risk their lives to deliver the very basic essential to keep our kitchen fire burning.”
“The very fact that such basic essential goods supply is disrupted due to unabated multiple taxation on numerous occasions has caught the District Administration sleeping. During such unprecedented times where economy is reeling under the negative impact of Covid-19, business people and entrepreneurs are struggling to make their ends meet, the protective role of the respective District Authority is needed the most,” a press release from the ACAUT media cell stated.
It informed that the GST being paid by the business people goes to the Nagaland State exchequer, which is then released as salaries paid to the guardians and enforcers of law.
“So it is their bounded duty to secure the lives of those who pay taxes and to ensure protection of its law abiding citizens. It is no secret that there is lacuna in the Judiciary system where arrested accused are released on bails and even serious crimes are given mild sentences,” it added.
The ACAUT said that the only panacea to plug such loopholes is by enacting similar law in the State as that of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act 1999 (MCOCA). It meanwhile encouraged the AKIDA to stand steadfast “in its genuine demand for justice and continue with the democratic means of peaceful indefinite bandh of LPG service until the responsible authorities are compelled to uphold the rule of law in our State.”
