ACAUT endorses call for early settlement of Naga issue

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 11 (MExN): The ACAUT Nagaland today fully endorsed the 15 Tribal Hohos of Nagaland and their message to the Government of India for early settlement to the Naga political issue, reiterating the August 31, 2019 declaration of the six tribes of ENPO and 8 tribes of Nagaland.

“The 15 Tribal Hohos have rightly rebutted that the BJP slogan ‘Election for Solution’ was an inkling of deception and distrust and therefore should not hoodwink the Nagas with another sugar coated slogan or phrase,” a press release from the ACAUT said.

It rued that the representation to the Prime Minister of India for early acceptable solution as the outmost desire of the Naga people seems to have fallen on deaf ears. “Therefore, to express our loss of faith in fulfilling their poll promise the Naga public should now express our protest against the betrayal by coming out in the streets,” it said.

The ACAUT further said that the projected strong central top leadership of the BJP “seems to be effeminate when it comes for a decisive verdict to conclude a ceasefire started 26 years ago.” “To go ahead with the election just to fulfill the constitutional obligation and drive its citizens to another term of unabated taxation with exploding corruption will drive the state of Nagaland to a state of chaos and anarchy,” it stated.

It pointed out that hope is snuffed out from the students and youth, development is compromised and investment opportunities are stalled due to the protracted political conflict without settlement. It added that unity has become a casualty in the social fabric of the  Nagas society due to fissures of divisions in all possible boundaries, where  the agencies of the GOI are busy splitting Naga Political Groups into dozens and instantly  signing ceasefire agreements.

“In the state of Nagaland, when  the people living below the poverty line  and unemployment statistics are among the highest in the country, in a state where the basic human dignity is petered  away, it is only a matter of time that Nagaland will be tagged a failed state,” it cautioned.

The ACAUT called upon the citizens of Nagaland to “rise to the occasion and be ready to carry out delegated responsibility when the call is made for our collective future.”
