Dimapur, October 28 (MExN): The Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland has expressed concern over a recent summon notice issued by the First Class Judicial Magistrate Court in Mumbai to Temjen Imna Along Longkumer, the senior Minister for Tourism and Higher Education in the People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) government of Nagaland.
This legal action follows the initiation of a fraud case against Minister Along involving a staggering amount of Rs 125 crore. ACAUT Nagaland criticized the BJP party and the Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for their perceived indifference to the situation, noting that neither has called for Along to resign despite the serious allegations against him.
“This evasiveness and casual response from the BJP and the Chief Minister are galling,” said ACAUT Nagaland in a press statement. “Their inaction stands in stark contrast to democratic traditions and shows a lack of respect for the people,” it added.
The organization highlighted that sufficient prima facie evidence has been established against Along, with the judicial process still ongoing. Despite this, he continues to hold his position, raising concerns about the integrity of free and impartial trials, it added.
“Basic public ethics dictate that those facing serious allegations should step aside,” the ACAUT Nagaland emphasized, pointing out that the BJP, which positions itself as a champion against corruption, must meet the expectations of the citizens.
In light of these developments, ACAUT Nagaland demanded that Temjen Imna Along either resign or be compelled to step aside until he is exonerated by the court.
