ACP seeks community response in combating AIDS

Dimapur, May 6 (MExN): The ‘AIDS Competence Process: Nagaland Learning Event’, involving 10 NGOs, Positive Networks, N-Naga Dao and state stakeholders, will be held at the DAN Training Centre at 4th Mile, Dimapur, from May 7 to May 9. A press release from the PNF desk informed that the event is funded by UNAIDS and hosted by the People in Need Foundation, Dimapur.

The AIDS Competence Process (ACP) under the AIDS Competence Constellation is an innovative approach towards stimulating community responses across the world in combating the virus and rehabilitating those infected and affected, the release states. ACP believes in the people’s capacity to respond, to take charge, to learn from each other, and to change. The approach focuses on stimulating, connecting and nurturing the local responses to the HIV/AIDS problem. ACP builds on the community strength to deal with the HIV/AIDS issues and enables it to take ownership, it added.

Formally introduced across India in the year 2007, ACP is now being practised in the country by 13 NGOs and several communities. Nagaland has been represented by the North Eastern Drug/HIV Training Centre (NEDHIV) and the People in Need Foundation (PNF), Dimapur.  NEDHIV also hosted a support visit of the National ACP team in September, 2008.
