Mokokchung, September 3 (MExN): Additional Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung Atsungba Walling has issued a circular seeking to expand coverage of the Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) schemes through state government employees.
The initiative aims to increase the outreach of the social security schemes across the district by using the existing government workforce. According to the circular, RPLI provides sum assured ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 10 lakh, while PLI provides coverage ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50 lakh.
The Department of Posts currently operates 402 post offices across Nagaland, providing banking, insurance and other citizen-centric services, including in remote areas. To expand the schemes, the department has introduced the "Other Departmental Employee (ODE)" category, allowing state government employees to act as sales agents for PLI and RPLI and receive financial incentives.
Government departments and offices in Mokokchung district have been asked to nominate one willing employee from each department or office at the tehsil and block levels for the role. The initiative is expected to increase insurance penetration, particularly among rural populations, and contribute to greater financial inclusion.
