PUGHOBOTO, JUNE 15 (MExN): The office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Pughoboto, on June 14 issued a notification banning and prohibiting any form of individual or organised dumping of plastic and other wastes into Tapu (Doyang) river and its tributaries Tsuvi, Kucho, Thaghu, Tsuli, and Yeti.
The directive also applies to any other water body within the sub-division, the notification said.
This was issued as the Pughoboto sub-division is an upstream settlement through which the Doyang river flows and came in view of the recent exercise conducted under the theme ‘Clean Doyang Mission.’
During the exercise, government agencies undertook intensive ‘Mission Mode’ cleaning of Doyang Reservoir, Wokha, to remove the accumulated plastic and other non-biodegradable pollutants, which are carried downstream by the flow of water in the Doyang river, the notification added.
As per the State DIPR, taking into consideration the ill effects of waste disposal in the rivers and understanding the importance of collective efforts to avoid river pollution, the administration appealed to all individuals, organisations, towns, and villages under Pughoboto to ensure that the stretch of Tapu (Doyang) river along the sub-division is protected from anthropogenic pollution.
It further appealed to all to avoid littering and the disposal of plastic and other waste, commonly associated with picnics and gatherings, along the riverbanks.
The administration also encouraged and appealed to all citizens to act as guardians of natural resources by consciously preventing river and environmental pollution.
Moreover, the notification also informed that the government authorities will take action against any individuals or groups found undertaking practices that cause pollution of the Tapu river within the sub-division.
