Mon, (MExN): One day advocacy workshop on HIV/AIDS and Drug addiction for community leaders was conducted on September 3, at Mon.
The workshop was organized by Walo organization and was funded by World Vision ADP Mon. L.T. Konyak, Deputy Commissioner graced the occasion as the Chief Guest where he spoke on the role of various community leaders in the struggle against the problems caused by HIV/AIDS and drug addiction.
Various community leaders from different sections of the society such as Konyak Union, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong, Konyak Students Union, Mon Town Council, Church administration, Government administrators, Public leaders and elders participated and made the day long advocacy workshop a grand success.
The resource person spoke on different topics. Project Director Walo Drop-in-center Aboi, Pangmei spoke on the prevaling scenario and situation on HIV/AIDS.
N.R.Kithan, World Vision, ADP, Mon spoke on socio-economic impact of HIV/AIDS while Shahkai.K., Secretary of Shansham Organization emphasized on the concept of drug addiction which is one of the major causes of HIV/AIDS.
The workshop was concluded with various action plans to be adopted. It decided to adopt the following action plans:
1.The participants resolved to continuously support the de-addiction center run by Shansham Organization.
2.It resolved to facilitate for holding such advocacy workshops and awareness camps in the Church and every sector and ward of the town and rural areas.
3.It resolved to share a network and appealed the government to support for setting up of drug rehabilitation center in the District.
4.It resolved to make the struggle as a mass movement for one and all.
