After birth of 1st IVF baby, all praises to God

Dimapur, June 9 (MExN): After all the excitement over the first test Tube Baby delivered in Nagaland at Faith Hospital Dimapur on June 2 last, the doctors, nurses, well wishers and the other pregnant women along with their families gathered at the Faith Hospital Chapel Hall and praised God for His mercies over the childless couples and the society.

Bringing the word of God into the context of Test Tube Project, Reverend Inaho who is the pastor of the Sumi Baptist Church, while speaking at the programme, said that IVF project is a strange word for many people who have never even dreamed of it. However, he said that this wisdom and knowledge about the IVF was given to the doctors of the Faith Hospital by God and made it a possibility.

Incidentally, the first Test Tube baby delivered in Nagaland at the Faith Hospital has been named as ‘Hikhulu’ by his mother, Akheli Zhimomi who dedicated the child to God. The Sumi word ‘Hikhulu’ when translated into English reads ‘I asked this from God and he gave me this.’

Rev Inaho also said that the delivery of the baby through IVF technology is through the glory of God and not the hospital, the doctors and nurses or the parents. The Reverend called upon the gathering to believe in God.

Later, the pregnant mothers, who looked both elated and apprehensive, along with their husbands kneeled down and fervently prayed for the safe delivery of their babies.

Dr Shokato, the man behind the whole Test Tube Baby project at the hospital, while enlightening the gathered parents and well-wishers about how the IVF technology works, said that he was touched and moved by the unhappiness of the ‘biologically handicapped’ parents and so decided to solve their problems. He said that he and his wife had been praying for a long time to show some way to bring some comfort to the childless parents. He said that he traveled to many foreign places like Australia and Germany and met with doctors over there who are his friends. He confessed that setting up the IVF project was not an easy task as it is very expensive; however, he again praised God and said that by God’s grace, the Kheholi ART (Assisted Reproductive Technique-IVF, IUI, ICSI) Unit at the hospital was set up.

He called upon the audience to join them in praising God and receiving His (God’s) blessing. He called upon the childless couples that if they sincerely pray then God would surely help them, encouraging them to be brave and courageous.

The programme also saw the felicitation of the doctors, the parents, and well-wishers by the hospital for their support and help. Four mothers, Sarita, Rajana, Lucy and Moanaro are also expecting their Test Tube babies very soon; Ranjana, a non-local lady is expecting twins.
