Kohima, March 19 (MExN): The aggrieved landowners of the Kohima-Jessami Two-Lane construction project (Packages IIB, III, IV, and V) have urged Deputy Chief Minister and Minister in charge of National Highways, T.R. Zeliang, to intervene and take urgent action to resolve the prolonged delay in receiving lateral damage compensation from the State Government and the NHIDCL.
Despite multiple verification and assessment processes conducted by the District Level Verification Committee since 2021 and subsequent submissions to the State Government and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), no concrete resolution or payment has been provided, the landowners stated.
According to the landowners, many of them have been left without homes since 2021 due to damage caused by the physical work of the EPC contractor.
They accused the authorities of inaction despite repeated appeals, agitations, and written requests to the District Administration, the Executive Director of NHIDCL (Regional Office) Kohima, and the Managing Director of NHIDCL (Headquarters) in New Delhi.
Accordingly, the sought the Deputy CM’ intervention on the issue. Having endured prolonged hardship and suffering, the landowners cautioned that they would be compelled to take their own course of action if the State Government and NHIDCL fail to provide a solution at the earliest.
