Aggrieved Tamlu landowners allege ‘fraud’ in compensation

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 14 (MExN): The Tamlu Area Aggrieved Land Owners Union (TAALOU) has sought clarification from the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) and nodal department agencies of Longleng district on the payment of alleged “fraud compensation” with regard to the two lane Tamlu-Merangkong-Mon road project under Phase ‘A’ of SARDP-NE.

A press release from the union said that amount due to genuine beneficiaries was “manipulated by delivering abstract estimate as final payment for compensation to land owners.” It demanded urgent re-investigation into property damage compensation. The TAALOU alleged that there have been anomalies in rate of compensation, while genuine beneficiary’s names are missing and alleged bogus beneficiaries names drew exorbitant rates.
The union questioned who was responsible for estimating the property damage and demanded that action be initiated against the erring officials, individuals or groups involved.

The TAALOU also asked the NHIDCL and nodal agencies in the district to furnish the total compensation amount forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner, Longleng. It further asked whether the recent published list of property compensation in the ADC office, Tamlu is the final list.

The union alleged that there are random nonexistent bogus beneficiaries names not recorded in the GPS mapping nor in the data record during survey hour. It also demanded that the NHIDCL furnish the government compensation rate for demolition of building structure, agri farmland, fishery rearing etc.

The union meanwhile questioned why high compensation amount was granted for “unaccounted miscellaneous purpose” while damage caused to genuine beneficiaries was excluded from the purview of compensation and not taken into account or made with meager amount of money.

“This is unethical and unacceptable compared with our worth property damage,” it added.

Demanding reinvestigation of the actual compensation of beneficiaries on or before October 20, the union cautioned that failure to do so would compel it to initiate its own course of action.
