Agri dept conducts training on organic farming

State field functionaries/extension officers and resource persons after the two day Organic Farming Training held at conference hall, Directorate of Agriculture Kohima on January 22 and 23.

Kohima, January 28 (MExN): The Department of Agriculture in collaboration with Regional Centre of Organic Imphal, organized two days intensive training on organic farming for State field functionaries/extension officers at conference hall, Directorate of Agriculture Kohima, from January 22 to 23.


The inaugural programme was chaired by K Rumphamo Lotha, Joint Director of Agriculture who also gave the keynote address. Dr DS Yadav Assistant Director Regional Centre of Organic Farming (RCOF) Imphal, Manipur highlighted about the programme.


Resource persons were Dr DS Yadav, Asstt. Director (RCOF, Imphal), Dr Sachin Kumar Vaid, (Jr) Kishore R Shedge, JB Karmakar, RCOF, Imphal, Meyasashi Deputy Director of Horticulture, Nagaland and Dr James Kithan Deputy Director of Agriculture Department.


The topic covered in the training were organic farming principles to practices, current government schemes related to organic farming, organic cultivation package and practices for large cardamom and pineapple, indigenous traditional knowledge practices on organic farming, nutrient and pest management on organically managed farms, use of bio-pesticides, as sustainable agriculture in India and hands on training on PUS-India portal and Jaivik Kheti Portal.


Altogether 30 field functionaries participated in the two day programme for the District and Sub-division.
