DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 2 (MExN): The Association of Indigenous Minority Tribes of Nagaland (AIMTN) has expressed strong disappointment over what it described as the “bias exclusion” of the Garo, Kuki, Kachari, and Mikir tribes in the recently advertised district-wise allotment of constable posts under the Nagaland Police Department.
In a press statement, the AIMTN noted that these four tribes are constitutionally recognized as Scheduled Tribes in Nagaland under The Constitution (Nagaland) Scheduled Tribes Order, 1970. It further recalled that the Government of Nagaland, through a Home Department order issued on July 6, 1973, had made provisions for the reservation of posts for these communities along with Naga tribes. The order had stated that the Governor of Nagaland was pleased to provide 100 percent reservation for appointments to non-technical Grade III and IV posts and 80 percent reservation for all other posts under the government to be filled through direct recruitment for persons belonging to Naga tribes, Kuki, Kachari, Garo, and Mikir communities, provided such persons were indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland.
The association pointed out that despite these legal provisions, the latest order issued by the Office of the Director General of Police, Nagaland, dated September 30, 2025, had “most ambiguously ignored these tribes thus violating the above mentioned orders.”
In light of this, AIMTN has appealed to the authorities concerned to review the recruitment order and “judiciously allot seats to these tribes under Dimapur, Peren, and Chümoukedima districts.”
