Advisor for Agriculture, Government of Nagaland, Mhathung Yanthan today graced the inaugural ceremony of the 19th Agricultural Students’ Association of Nagaland (ASAN) conference under the theme ‘Rejuvenate Agriculture: Leadership building and entrepreneurship’ at School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Medziphema.

Speaking after releasing the 19th ASAN general conference memento, the Advisor said, “Nagaland is experiencing a growing number of agro-horticulture entrepreneurs, even though many are not from an agricultural background.” He therefore encouraged the students to consider turning agriculture into a business and pursue entrepreneurship in this field.

Yanthan said, “Graduates still hold a sick mindset if they complete their studies in professional fields like agriculture and go back seeking only government jobs.” Towards this, he urged them to introspect the profession that they were pursuing and develop skills and passion and help the agriculture community in the state as a whole while adding that Nagaland economy could only thrive through agriculture.

The Advisor said organising the conferences was essential for students, as it provided them the opportunity to exchange their ideas and experiences, establish connections, and form partnerships with various sectors and broaden their horizons.

NU:SAS Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr Akali Sema asked agricultural students to think outside the box in the midst of the fast developing technology, and challenge while adding that the  world needs youths in this field. She encouraged the students to grab hold of the opportunities provided to them.

Earlier, ASAN Vice President, Thejaseto Terhuja, chaired the programme and Nzanthung Ezung was the compere. The invocation was delivered by NU:SAS Assistant Professor, Dr Sentimenla Jamir and welcome address was delivered by resident, ASAN, Imlimanen Ozukum. NU:SAS EU Choir and Temsu Clover presented songs.
