
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 11 (MExN): An All India Congress Committee (AICC) leadership delegation led by Mukul Wasnik, MP and AICC Senior Observer for Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura held discussions with K Therie, President, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) and Bobby Panicker, Working President, this morning.
The AICC leadership delegation also included Mohan Prakash, AICC Screening Committee Chairman for Nagaland; Francisco Sardinha, MP and AICC Observer; Dr K Jayakumar, MP and AICC Observer; Sanjay Dutt, Member, AICC Screening Committee; and Ranajit Mukherjee, AICC Secretary I/C Nagaland and Sikkim.
Discussions were held on the probability of elections being announced or the imposition of President’s Rule in the state, informed a press release from the NPCC. The meeting also appraised the mood of the people of the state and the prospects of the upcoming elections.
Therie informed the delegation that the people are not in the mood for election. Voters want implementation of the agreed political solutions, he stated, however adding that if the BJP and NDPP want to go against the wishes of the people and have elections, then come what may, the State Congress is prepared to fight it out.
The NPCC leaders also discussed how the CBSC exam routine starts from February 15 and therefore if elections are announced, the Election Commission may have to complete the election process before February 15, leaving hardly 35 days.
Therefore, irrespective of whether elections are announced or PR imposed, Therie stated that the Congress has decided to prepare to meet the challenges. The NPCC leaders also discussed on the Secular Front and resolved that if elections are announced, finalization with like-minded parties will be done and if not, Congress may have to fight all the 60 assembly constituencies.
The delegation assured its full support to the State Congress if elections are announced, to fight and dethrone the “20-year misrule of BJP alliance with regionals.” The meeting also discussed the possibility of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, AICC General Secretary and Shashi Tharoor, MP, as star campaigners in the event elections are announced.
