The All India Federation of University & College Teachers’ Organization (AIFUCTO) today informed it would discuss the issue of Nagaland in term of problem being faced by the contract teachers, teachers’ strength in the government colleges, etc.
AIFUCTO officials told the press conference today that the issue of Nagaland will be discussed at the ongoing two day National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of AIFUCTO- cum- National Seminar on “NEP 2020: Envisioning Quality Higher Education,” which commenced today at Kohima Science College Jotsoma.
AIFUCTO President, Prof Kesab Bhattacharya said that AIFUCTO will try to approach the higher education minister of Nagaland on various issues and challenges, confronting the teachers in Nagaland.
AIFUCTO General Secretary Prof Arun Kumar expressed concern that many contractual teachers in Nagaland are not getting UGC pay scale. AIFUCTO will discuss with the state government to extend all the facilities, he said. Many new colleges have been opened by the government but they (Govt) don’t appoint teachers there and depute teachers from other colleges, he said.
Earlier, All Nagaland Government College Teachers’ Association (ANGCTA) general secretary Dr Yelhi Vero brought to the notice of the AIFUCTO that the contract teachers in Nagaland are facing a lot of hardship in their service, adding that they are being paid little salary and that too, they don’t get on time. He also expressed dismayed that the process of basement and promotion take long time, which demoralize teachers in the profession.
Regarding the shortage of teachers in many newly opened colleges in the state, Vero viewed that proper recruitment system be done to take higher education to higher level. Stating that there is no State University in the state of Nagaland, he said that “it is high time we have the state university.”
