Ailing Ruzaphema village demands Govt’s healing

Dimapur, April 26 (MExN): Ruzaphema is undergoing numerous hardships in its socio-economic existence thanks to poor or non-existence of proper road connectivity or communication facilities. Ruzaphema Village Council highlights some of the major problems being faced by the area’s people and has appealed to the government for redress of the plight.

A note from the secretary of the council, Meno Ratsa states that the village area’s road conditions are in a deplorable condition and has not been repaired for the last 20 years. This has affected the people, particularly health patients who cannot avail the needful treatment on time. There are no NST bus services either, the council informs. There are private buses plying but they are irregular since the road condition, from New Chumukedima to Ngawla village, is not motorable. “The road can be compared to a fishery pond in the monsoons and if the road is not repaired in time, there is every possibility that communication to and from the village would come to a standstill” the council explains to the government. The villagers have appealed to the state government to repair at least 15 kilometers of roadway connecting the village to the highway in order to improve the life condition of the villagers.

Then bamboos are a big problem too, the Ruzaphema council points out. Once known for its rich bamboo resources, bamboo plantations today in Ruzaphema have “surpassed” their lifespan thus affecting the villagers economically, it states. The council has appealed to the government to compensate the farmers, affected by the poor bamboo production, with “whatever amount” while also re-planning a method of planting for bamboos in the village’s area. Requesting the government to take note of these hardships being faced by the poor farmers and villagers, the council appealed to the government to step forward to help “in the true spirit of Christianity.”
