Students engaging in vocational training during the launch of the Shine School project.

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 9 (MExN): In a significant move to advance vocational education in Nagaland, AISECT, a prominent social enterprise, has partnered with Samagra Shiksha to launch the “School Shine” project. This initiative aims to equip students with practical skills and foster a culture of entrepreneurship, aligning with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) and the National Education Policy 2020.
The "School Shine" project was officially launched at Government High School (GHS) Thahekhu, with the participation of educational leaders and stakeholders. N. Kahoni Chishi, Assistant Head Mistress of GHS Thahekhu, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of practical learning for students' future careers. She emphasized that the project would prepare students for real-world challenges by blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience.
. Parvin Yadav, State Coordinator for NSDC Skill India Nagaland, addressed the gathering, explaining that schools have the potential to serve as hubs for vocational education. He emphasized that practical projects, such as "School Shine," help schools generate revenue and become more self-sustaining. This, in turn, enhances the overall educational ecosystem.
Indranil Mukherjee, Zonal Head of AISECT Ltd, provided insight into the project’s objectives. He noted that “School Shine” focuses on nurturing young entrepreneurs by providing opportunities to acquire practical skills and fostering innovation. The project’s first phase involves students in the Electronics Trade producing 1,400 (9 Watt) LED bulbs. This hands-on experience aims to give them a glimpse into manufacturing processes while developing their creativity.

The initiative spans across 43 schools in Nagaland, with each school participating in various phases of the project. The second phase engages students from the Retail Trade, who will budget and market the LED bulbs produced. This experience is designed to build their entrepreneurial skills by teaching them the fundamentals of budgeting and sales strategies. In the third phase, students in the IT/ITes Trade will handle data entry, project design, and organization, gaining essential skills in business operations and data management.
A unique feature of the project is the opportunity for Class 12 students to submit startup proposals, which will be funded through the revenue generated from the LED bulb production. This model encourages students to develop innovative business ideas that can be implemented in their communities.
Michael Yanthan, Vice President of the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU), praised the project, noting its long-term benefits for students in terms of skill development and career preparation.
The “School Shine” project is expected to empower students by integrating practical skill development with entrepreneurial initiatives, shaping a brighter future for Nagaland’s youth and its educational landscape.
