‘Entitled to right to freedom of thought & opinion’
Dimapur, October 8 (MExN): The NSCN-IM is asked by Akhoya village to revoke the decree served to former Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. SC Jamir and principal secretary Alemtemshi Jamir. The underground faction had, earlier, declared the two “anti-national” and “anti-people.” Akhoya Village Council lamented that the two Naga citizens should be served the “azha” ‘to their selfless contribution for all-round development of Nagaland.’
“The declaration made us wonder as to who would be pro-people if at all we consider them as anti-people and anti-national” the village council observed in a note issued through its chairman L Mar Imsong.
On Dr. SC Jamir, the village council acknowledged that the ‘Bedrock of Naga Society’ could have hurt the sentiments of the Naga “national” leaders, but, the village reminded, he also has his right to freedom of thought and opinion. While the Naga “national” leaders’ sentiments could have been hurt, it does not qualify him to be treated as “anti-national” and “anti-people.”
On Principal Secretary Alemtemshi Jamir, IAS, the village stated that the official has already disclaimed his involvement in authoring the booklet. “We also understand that it was a mere (coincidence) that he (Alemtemshi) happened to be the special and principal secretary to the then chief minister during the publication of the said booklet” the village stated. In the interest of the Naga people, the NSCN-IM is asked to revoke the “resolution” passed against the two. The council also added that such a decree as the one served to the two be avoided ‘which is harmful’ to the Nagas’ existences and their future.
