Peren, December 12 (MExN): “In the present day, the enemies to individuals and society are alcohol and drugs,” cautioned Dr Pritpal Kaur Batra, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Phek while emphasising that indulging in these intoxicating elements can be more devastating than major wars.

Addressing the evening fiesta of the Meluri Winter Fest on December 11, the SP Phek called for collective efforts to address these challenges and promote a healthy and thriving community.

A DIPR Report stated that Dr Batra expressed her sincere appreciation to the people of Meluri and Pochury for their dedicated and hardworking culture. She was pleased to learn about the various talents exhibited by the people of Pochury in trades such as pottery, salt making, and cane works, which have been preserved and practiced for generations.

The SP Phek also inaugurated the ‘Mountain Gems’ stall, showcasing handicrafts and processed food set up by local entrepreneurs, primarily consisting of talented youths. She had previously initiated a free training programme on bamboo handicrafts and food processing in November 2023.

The evening fiesta featured a carol competition from nine wards, folk tunes, and presentations of talents from various artists and bands. The programme was chaired by Chitsiarho Po, President, MKK.
