Ministry of Home Affairs to look into concern of persons hailing from North Eastern States

Kohima, February 7 (DIPR): Former Chief Secretary, Nagaland, Alemtemshi Jamir (IAS) has been appointed as a committee member in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), constituted to look into the various kinds of concern of persons hailing from the North Eastern States living in different parts of the country, especially the metropolitan areas and to suggest suitable remedial measures which could be taken by the government.

The composition of the Committee will be as under: M.P. Bezbaruah, IAS (Retd.)    Chairman Member, North-Eastern Council; H.W.T. Syeim, IAS (Retd.)-Member; Alemtemshi Jamir, IAS (Retd.)    - Member; Tape Bagra, IAS (Retd.)-Member; P. Bharat Singh, IAS (Retd.)-Member; and S. Saha, Deputy Secretary, MHA-Member Secretary.

The Chairman of the committee shall co-opt members, one each from the other North Eastern States, viz., Tripura, Mizoram and Sikkim as well as one lady member. IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Robin Hibu, will also be in the team of the Ministry of Home Affairs which will assist the Committee.

The terms of reference of the Committee shall be as follows: To examine the various kinds of concerns, including the concerns regarding security, of the persons hailing from the North Eastern States; To examine the causes behind the attacks/ violence and discrimination against the people from the North-Eastern States; To suggest measures to be taken by the Government to address these concerns; To suggest legal remedies to address these concerns.

The Committee shall submit its report within two months. The Committee will be provided secretarial assistance and other facilities by the Ministry of Home Affairs.  This was stated in an order No.11012/110/ 2012-NE-IV Ministry of Home Affairs (North East Division) New Delhi, dated the 5th February, 2014.
