Guwahati, February 6 (MExN): A villager and two loco pilots have been awarded by the North East Frontier Railways (NFR) for displaying exceptional alertness. According to a press release from the NFR, Amar Dewri, a resident of Bargaon, Dharamtul on December 7, 2017 noticed a fracture along a rail track between Sonuabari and Dharamtul station and hand gestured an approaching train to stop. Loco Pilot Probir Sonowal and his assistant Vikesh Kumar noticing the gesture, applied the emergency brakes and managed to stop the train. When the two pilots got down from the train, they noticed the big rail fracture and thus, a probable mishap was averted. The three were awarded the General Manager’s Safety Award. While Dewri was awarded Rs. 5,000 for showing alertness leading to averting of a rail accident, the two loco pilots were awarded Rs. 2500 each.
