All Nagaland Catholic Schools Games Meet concludes

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 11 (MExN): Chumoukedima hosted the All Nagaland Catholic Schools Games Meet 2024, bringing together over 1,000 students from 35 schools across the state for a two-day event filled with athletic competition and camaraderie. 

Organized by the Commission for Education Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK), the event, held from October 9 to October 10, featured competitions in football, volleyball, and basketball for both junior and senior boys and girls. Matches took place at venues including St. Joseph Higher Secondary School in Chumoukedima, St. Anthony School in Tenyiphe, and Carmel Higher Secondary School in Chekiye Village.

Keoshu Yimkhiung, Advisor to the Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland, graced the inaugural ceremony as the special guest. In his address, he acknowledged the Catholic Church’s contributions to education and sports, describing the meet as “a festival of passion, discipline, teamwork, and respect.” He emphasized the importance of unity and holistic development, encouraging students to compete not only for victory but for personal growth and shared experiences.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Jacob Charalel, Secretary of CEDOK, welcomed guests and participants, expressing that the meet aims to foster interaction and community spirit among students from diverse backgrounds. Rev. Fr. Carolus Neisalhou, Vicar General of the Diocese, invoked blessings upon the event, wishing that it would promote fellowship and healthy competition among the youth.

The meet concluded on the evening of October 10, with Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, presiding over the closing ceremony. In his message, Bishop Thoppil praised the meet’s organizers and expressed gratitude for favorable weather. He encouraged participants to celebrate not only their victories but the friendships and experiences gained.

Nozasol Charles, State Information Commissioner, joined Bishop Thoppil in presenting trophies to the winners, with St. Francis De Sales Higher Secondary School, Medziphema, claiming the overall championship title. Rev. Fr. Philip Y. Lotha, Joint Secretary of CEDOK, concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
