Wokha, October 15 (MExN): All shops and various business establishments within the Wokha Town Council (WTC) jurisdiction have been directed to display signboards and install light bulbs without fail by October 31.
The signboards should include the name and nature of the shop, the license/permit number, and the GSTIN (for those shops selling goods/items under GST Rules), according to a directive from the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and Executive Officer of WTC, Renbomo Ezung.
This directive followed a notification from the Municipal Affairs Department regarding new market regulations.
As per the State DIPR, all shops were also directed to maintain a clean and hygienic environment by mandatorily keeping proper waste bins within or outside their establishments.
Shop owners should refrain from employing salespersons who are not well acquainted with prices to avoid unnecessary arguments and misunderstandings between customers and shop owners. They were also informed to properly maintain and keep their shop permit licenses and other related documents on the premises.
Other directions included a prohibition on the sale of expired goods as well as charging prices above the printed maximum retail price (MRP), as per the Consumer Protection Act 2019 and the Legal Metrology Act 2009. All shops, except medical shops, were prohibited from opening on Sundays.
Any shops or individuals found tampering with the original printed MRP on any products shall be prosecuted under the relevant sections of the law, the directive cautioned.
Non-compliance with the above regulations by any shops or individuals will result in a penalty of Rs 2000 for the first offense and Rs 3000 for subsequent offenses, it added.
