Dimapur, June 9 (MExN): The GB Union Dimapur (Sadar) (GBUD-S) has called for the immediate revocation of the Gaon Bura (GB) appointment of Akangkokba Ao, GB of Residency Colony, following his arrest as the third accused in a minor rape case.
In a press statement, the union stated that it was "utterly shocked" by the arrest and said it was beyond imagination that "a guardian and protector of the citizens can become the perpetrator of such heinous crime."
According to the statement, the GBUD (S) has cancelled Ao's membership in the union with immediate effect.
The union further informed that it has apprised the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, to revoke or cancel his appointment order and GBship immediately, paving the way for a thorough investigation and stern punishment under the provisions of the law.
It also called upon the Commissioner of Police and law enforcement agencies to treat the matter with utmost seriousness, expedite the investigation without delay, and ensure that all those involved are prosecuted under the relevant laws.
Expressing solidarity with the minor victim, her family and the affected community, the union assured its full support and cooperation in the pursuit of justice.
At the same time, the GBUD (S) appealed to citizens to have faith in the legal process and urged the public not to take the law into their own hands or disrupt public order while the investigation is underway.
