
Dimapur, March 11 (MExN): The satellite tagged Amur Falcons – Naga, Pangti, and Wokha – are spending their winter in southern Africa. As of March 8, Naga was in Botswana, Pangti in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Wokha in Ladysmith, South Africa, stated a press release issued by M. Lokeswara Rao (IFS), Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, Kohima.
The three Amur Falcons were released with a satellite tag in November from Nagaland. The local communities received global accolades for their movement in conserving the birds last year. International scientists declared Doyang roosting site as one of the biggest congregation of Amur Falcons in the world and nearly one million Amur falcon roosted there. Nagaland was also declared Falcon capital of the world.
