• Nagaland govt calls for review meeting on KSC land encroachment
• Agrees to constitute nodal cell for all scholarship schemes
• Vows to stop attachment of teachers to VIPs
DIMAPUR, MAY 24 (MExN): The All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU) today called off its proposed agitation stating that the Nagaland state government has agreed to look into key issues of concern highlighted by the union with regard to the education sector.
“In the greater interest of the public, the union calls off its proposed agitation in abstaining from participating in the upcoming state Lok Sabha bye-election,” a press note from the ANCSU stated.
The issues involved include land encroachment at Kohima Science College; setting up of a nodal cell for all scholarship schemes; and detachment of teachers under school education to VIPs.
The ANCSU acknowledged the Chief Secretary for calling a joint meeting with the union and other government officials concerned on May 21. It further informed that the government has vowed to “immediately stop the policy of attaching teachers with VIP’s.”
It added that the state government has also agreed to constitute a committee and bring out the modalities in setting up a nodal cell/department for all scholarship schemes.
With regard to the land encroachment issue, the government has called for a review meeting on June 27 to study the report and progress made by the district administration as proper survey and identification of illegal land encroachers is to be made through legal proceedings, the ANCSU said.
The state government also reportedly agreed to take strict action against those teachers who have been detached and are still not in their posted institutions as per the October 31, 2017 Office Order.
The ANCSU mentioned that out of the 523 teachers who have been detached, 25 parties (single/group) have filed case against the state government in the Guwahati High Court.
The union hoped that the government would seriously pursue the union’s charter of demands as assured. It meanwhile said that the union would strictly monitor and be vigilant on the progress made by the government in this regard.
The meeting called by the state Chief Secretary was attended by the Advisor to Chief Minister, Home Commissioner, Nagaland Commissioner, Principal Secretary School Education, Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Director Higher Education, Director School Education and other concerned department officials.
