A three day long annual sports meet of the Angami Catholic Youth Association (ACYA) entered the second day today at Loyala Higher Secondary School Jakhama.

Day 2 sports event commenced with the unfurling of the ACYA flag by its advisor Zeneikho Benedict and was formally kicked off by Fr James Kulvi.

Addressing the gathering, Benedict encouraged the youth to live their lives in a productive way. He said that the best time for a human, is probably during youth when they are energetic and vigorous.

He urged them to make the best use of the moment and realize their talents, and further use it to glorify God.

Northern ACYA emerged as the Champions for penalty shootout (women) while Western ACYA secured the runner up position. For volleyball, Southern ACYA will take on Western ACYA in the final match for both men and women’s category.

As for Futsal (men), Chakhroma ACYA will take on Southern ACYA in the final match. The final matches will be played on Sunday, according to Medolenuo Ambrocia, Secretary, ACYA Sports Committee.

Earlier, on (Day 1) October 21, Chakhesang Catholic Youth Association (CCYA) led by its president Zhovi David Zholia graced the introductory session as the special guests.

The sports event began with a competition of the ACYA anthem where 30 participants each from the affiliated units took part in the competition.

Addressing the gathering during the opening ceremony, Zholia shared how he was intriqued by the unique initiative of the ACYA for inviting a youth body to grace the occasion. He praised the Catholic youth of the Angami tribe for sowing seeds of the faith, even to the Chakhesang tribe.

The Angamis, he observed, is one of the best and educated tribes, creating bond and building brotherhood to foster peace and unity.

ACYA Sports Committee convenor Kevitsu Peter, said that sports and music are forces of unity. He highlighted how the annual sporting event brings youth together under one roof, strengthening the bonds of people.

He informed that besides games like futsal, penalty shootout, and volleyball, other activities including a walkathon in the form of a Pilgrimage will be undertaken.

Over 300 delegates from five regions are camping for the sports meet. The five regions taking part in the event are Northern ACYA, Southern ACYA, Western ACYA, Kohima Town ACYA, and Chakhroma ACYA.

Western ACYA emerged as the champion of the choral competition, Kohima town ACYA and Northern ACYA secured the second and third position respectively.

The judges of the competition were Vituonyü Victor (Northern), Kekuneil Henry (Southern), Rokoshüno Angela (Chakhroma), Aba Albert (Kohima Town), and Rüülhubi Felix (Western).

The event is hosted by Jakhama Catholic Youth Association.
