The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) is all set to hold its 30th Biennial General Conference from April 28-30 at Tuophema village under the theme “Rational Integrity.”

Announcing this during a press conference at ASU office in Kohima, organizing central committee convenor, Kelhouneizo Yhome informed that the conference is expecting 2000 delegates from four ranges.

The conference will be hosted by Tuophema Village Students’ Union.

A new team of ASU office bearers will also be elected during the conference.

Currently, ASU is headed by Bisevi Nakhro as president.

Rational integrity
Yhome said that ASU has chosen “Rational Integrity” as the theme for 30th biennial general conference.

“In this present context of the Naga society, we have lot of people in terms of integrity. However, we are losing our rationality in our society,” he explained.

We need rationality, we need integrity at this juncture to move forward, to carry forward people together with equality, fairness, accountability and transparency, he said.

Yhome maintained that it is time for each and every individual to be rationalized and maintain integrity “to unite together, to move forward together, to progress together and achieve the aspiration and goals of the Naga people.”

Debate on ‘Is it time to lift the NLPT Act’
Central organizing committee co-convenor Neidilhoutuo Sechii said that debate session on “Is it time to lift the NLTP Act?” will take place on April 29 at 1:30 PM with Dr. Visakhonii Hibo, principal Japfii Christian College Kigwema as critic.

Being a student organization, we are not trying to strengthen the Act nor going against the Act. But, we thought we will discuss about it and debate so that our points can reach out to the larger public, Sechii said.

“We are not going against the Church decision but it is time to discuss the Act whether it is a liability or asset to the society,” Yhome said.

If this Act is effecting the future generation, then, the government and policy makers have to rethink on this Act and revist this issue, he said.

Out of this debate session, ASU will put its recommendation to the government that whether it should be strengthened or it should be lifted, Yhome added.
