Angami Women Organization triennial meet held

Neiphiu Rio, the Chief Minister of Nagaland at the Angami Women Organisation (AWO) 6th General Session held on May 14.
 
Dimapur, May 18 (MExN): The Angami Women Organisation (AWO) held its 6th General Session on May 14, 2011 in the Covenant Hall, Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur. Delegates from the four regional units namely Northern, Southern, Western and Chakhro Women Organisation had a one-day grand successful conference, where over 3000 people had attended.
A press note issued by Medovino Dolie, president, AWO Kohima stated that Neiphiu Rio, the Chief Minister of Nagaland graced the meeting as the chief guest, and was accompanied by wife Mrs. Kaisa Rio. The CM exhorted the women to uphold the rich heritage that our ancestors had given to us and said that Women are homemakers and they can best help every new generation to honor spiritual and human values, to radiate from home to national level. He further stated that we (Nagas) are now in an age of rapid drastic changes of destruction and development, and encouraged the women to develop a proactive attitude in life.
“In this egalitarian society, women have great opportunities and they are already responding well in many fields,” he said, and quoted several women’s names that have made to the top in political arena and in competitive examinations in India and added that back home, out of 50 students who topped the HSLC result in recent NBSE declaration, 36 were girls.  “Women’s power and her economic conditions are interdependent; hence government is constantly opening ways and means towards this education of the people. Recall the road shows, tribal festivals, etc,” he said. He further said that every effort is being made to have water available to citizens and in these, women’s involvement will be greatly appreciated. “Discover yourself what you can do professionally in any field with talent and diligence and when this is proven, you can earn a name and a living. That is why the year 2010 was declared ‘Entrepreneur year’ in Nagaland. Look out for all possible avenues and be an achiever,” he further exhorted.  
The session marks the end of the tenure and new officers with Salhoutuono Kruse as president were elected for 2011-2014. The ‘Yehzabo’ was amended and the amended Yehzabo declared that from henceforth the AWO is to be named “Angamimiapfü Mechü Krotho”. The Terhi Houdo displayed several new designs of dresses having Angami motif and four sets were approved for women and children-wear. The note also stated that the triennial reports of AWO activities and financial management revealed a wide range of involvements and developments for human welfare and revival of Naga cultural ethos. The Regional Units also enthralled the meeting with their traditional Naga songs and attire. The Conference was held under the theme “our work is our heritage” (Mhatho-e Siedze).
