ANHTU flays alleged assault of unit president

Kohima, January 10 (MExN): The All Nagaland Hindi Teacher's Union (ANHTU) and its Kohima Unit have strongly condemned what they term a "cowardly attack" on a union official by armed miscreants on January 6.

In a joint statement, the two unions maintained that ANHTU (Kohima Unit) President Vingethal Zhotso was assaulted by two unidentified miscreants at around 10 PM near his residence at Circuit House, New Minister’s Hill, Kohima.

The unidentified miscreants allegedly threatened him at gunpoint initially, demanding the "release of an undisclosed file which he had no knowledge of," and later physically assaulted him, leaving him in a "state of unconsciousness."

In response, the ANHTU Kohima Union asserted that it does not handle any kind of official files, and all such files are "handled and managed" by departmental officials.

Expressing concern and outrage over the senseless act of violence, the two unions noted that such acts of aggression have no place in a civilized society.

"Therefore, we stand united against any such form of violence or intimidation. This heinous act not only undermines democratic representation but also the safety and well-being of our union leaders," the statement asserted.

The duo further extended unwavering support to the president and his family during these difficult and challenging times.

"It is crucial that we collectively work towards creating an environment where such incidents are not tolerated," they added.
