Another citizen robbed by ‘underground faction’

Dimapur, April 14 (MExN): Close on the heels of a woman being robbed by three persons on April 13, another gang of antisocial elements claiming to be from an underground faction has reportedly looted a citizen in Dimapur on April 12. The incident happened around 1 am, the Dimapur Sankiton Ekhung informed today.
While not regularly reported in the recent past, recent days are seeing a rise in extortion and robbery attempts on locals in Dimapur. Just a few days ago three gunmen, including a non-Naga, said to be from a certain underground group, robbed a woman, a Naga said to be in Duncan Basti. The incident also came close on the heels of an attempt to extort reportedly by an undergound cadre from an official of the health department in Kohima earlier.
The Dimapur Sankiton Ekhung today issued a note narrating the crime. According to the note, three armed antisocial elements –one of them a non-local again – claiming to be from an underground faction came around 1 am on April 12. They broke into the residence of the general secretary of the Dimapur Sankiton Ekhung. “The gang of miscreants claimed to belong to underground faction and was on duty searching for counterfeit money which was just a ploy. The entire family was held at gunpoint and the whole house was searched and lastly they broke open the steel almirah and decamped with valuables and cash worth Rs. 2 Lakh approximately which included traditional ornaments, mobile handsets, camera and a White Yahama Fazer Bike,” the union informed.
The union denounced the criminal act of the miscreants. The crime not only caused financial and material loss but also caused deep mental trauma to the family especially the children, the union said.  While urging the public to condemn such criminal acts, they are also advised to remain on high alert against antisocial elements. The law enforcing agencies are also asked to step in and ‘prevent such cases’ in future and award exemplary punishment to the criminals.’
