Another hit-and-run case: Elderly Naga citizen killed in road accident

Deaths occurring from road accidents in Dimapur continue to rise as another citizen was killed after being hit by a truck in the early hours of August 20. The incident occurred at Golaghat road when the truck moving towards New Field Check gate hit the victim and tried to flee towards the Assam border.  

According to the Commissioner of Police (CP), Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo, the victim was Naga man in his late 60s. He was out for a morning walk at around 5:30 AM when the incident occurred. “Two Assam Rifles personnel, on duty, were standing just 15-20 feet away when they saw the accident occur,” he revealed. As the truck driver tried to flee from the scene of the crime, the two soldiers began chasing after the vehicle and eventually caught up to him before he could make his get-away, he added. 

The case was later handed over to the Dimapur police wherein further investigation would be made. It was also revealed that the deceased was a resident of Veterinary Colony, Burma camp and belonged to the Ao community.  He was a retired government servant under the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry.
