DIMAPUR, JUNE 30 (MExN): The National Center for Vector Borne Disease Control (NCVBDC) successfully concluded its observance of "Anti-Malaria Month" across Longleng and Peren districts, with extensive campaigns aimed at eradicating malaria and promoting awareness about vector-borne diseases. The theme for this year’s campaign was "Accelerating the Fight Against Malaria for a More Equitable World."
In Longleng District, the activities commenced on June 1 and spanned across all three blocks. Led by District Vector Borne Officer Dr. Tiameren Imchen and District Vector Borne Consultant A. Nyumoi Phom, the team conducted house-to-house visits, fever surveys, and community sensitization sessions. “We aimed to educate villagers about the signs and symptoms of malaria, preventive measures, and the importance of using Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs),” stated Dr. Imchen. The campaign included distributing leaflets, posters, and conducting container surveys. A total of 325 blood samples were collected, all testing negative for malaria, underscoring the district’s success in maintaining its malaria-free status since 2019.

In Peren District, the month-long campaign concluded on June 30th, targeting 12 selected villages based on criteria such as low reach and possible malaria susceptibility. Activities focused on the availability of free testing and treatment in government facilities and emphasized the importance of LLIN usage. “Our goal was to reach the remotest areas and ensure that everyone is aware of the preventive measures and the facilities available to them,” said Vimekhrie-u Metsieo, District VBD Consultant. The campaign included mass fever screenings and LLIN inspections in villages like GMS Samzuiram, GMS Lilen, and Nzauna.
A significant event was held on June 22 at Beisumpuikam village, where the District Vector Borne Diseases Control Unit Peren, in collaboration with ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), organized an awareness program on malaria elimination. Village leaders from Jalukiezangdi also participated. Dr. Hedungkiebe, the District Vector Borne Diseases Control Officer, served as the keynote speaker. "Our commitment to eliminating malaria and remaining malaria-free is stronger than ever," he declared. The collaboration between AIDA and NCVBDC in adopting villages like Beisumpuikam and Jalukiezangdi highlights their joint efforts in this mission.
Both districts also undertook efforts to screen mobile populations and migrant workers. In Peren, screenings were conducted at Pedi and Heunambe, led by Peren block MTS and Surveillance Workers.
The coordinated efforts of NCVBDC in Longleng and Peren districts demonstrate a robust commitment to eradicating malaria and ensuring the health and well-being of the communities. “Our continuous efforts and community participation are key to maintaining a malaria-free status in Nagaland,” emphasized Dr. Imchen.
