Ao Senden asks govt to restart power system improvement project in Mkg

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 27 (MExN): The Ao Senden has demanded that the Nagaland State Government restart the power system improvement project for Mokokchung which was sanctioned by Powergrid.

In a letter to the Chief Secretary, the Ao Senden President, Chubawati Longchar said that while the people of the district had expected completion of the project within the stipulated period, “to our dismay we have learned that the said project is going to be de-sanctioned.”

The Ao Senden said that the project is to be de-sanctioned on grounds of non-handing over of land for Mokokchung Power House Sub-station besides non reimbursement of state component of GST amounting to Rs 28.08 crore against invoices raised till March 21, 2021 pending from Department of Power, Nagaland.

It meanwhile referred to a letter written by All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) to the Chief Secretary on September 25, 2021 as well as the letter written by AWUMT to K Asungba Sangtam on April 29, 2021.

The Ao Senden clarified that “there is no land issue for construction of Power House Sub-station at Mokokchung as it has already been discussed and resolved between the land owner and AWUMT.” The same issue, it informed was also discussed on June 23, 2021 during the DPDB meeting in the presence of Powergrid officials.

The Ao Senden therefore viewed that despite all necessary formalities being completed for acquisition of the said land, the State Government is neglecting Mokokchung district for development of this project. “Therefore, consequent to this issue, if any reaction arises from the public, the state government shall be held fully responsible for it,” it cautioned.

It appealed to the State Government to initiate continuation of the said project without delay.
