Ao Senden for fresh census before delimitation

DIMAPUR, APRIL 26 (MExN): The Ao Senden, the apex public organization of Ao-Naga tribe has in a representation made to the Chairman Delimitation Commission of India stated that it fully agreed with the observation of the state government that the census figure of 2001, which projects overall growth rate of 64.53 % in Nagaland as against the national decadal growth rate of 23 % is much too high to say the least. “Whereas a higher growth rate may be possible in the urban areas owing to urbanization, a high growth rate exceeding 100 percent in rural areas is found to be quite abnormal therefore untenable”, stated the memorandum signed by Temjenkaba, President Ao Senden.

Reminding that the abnormal growth rate of the population in some areas in Nagaland, as will have adverse consequences, if considered for the delimitation process, as such the Ao Senden stated that it fully supported the stand of the state government for conducting the census afresh before delimitation is done.

It also urged upon the Delimitation Commission of India that until and unless a fresh census is carried out, no delimitation exercise on the basis of rejected census document be done in Nagaland. “We further suggest that the Commission may kindly use their good office to impress upon the central government the urgent and imperative need to conduct fresh census in Nagaland so as to ensure correct and balancing delimitation exercise”.
