Ao Senden ‘not satisfied’ with government response

Mokokchung observes a peaceful bandh

DIMAPUR, JUNE 11 (MExN): The twelve hour Mokokchung bandh which started at 6:00 am passed peacefully without any untoward incident. This was informed by the President of the Ao Senden, Dr. Sangyu Yaden. The bandh was called in protest of the Nagaland government’s non-response to a memorandum submitted by the Ao Senden. The government had, on June 10, issued a list of resolutions with regard to the Ao Senden memorandum and urged the body to call off the bandh. However, Dr. Yaden stated that the resolutions dealt with only a part of the memorandum. He said that the Ao Senden was ‘not satisfied’ with the government’s response and stated that the resolutions dealt only with the Foothills Road demand. While acknowledging that the Foothills Road is a major feature of the memorandum, the Ao Senden President said that the Nagaland government had side-stepped other issues. He informed that a Federal Assembly meeting of the Ao Senden has been called on June 12where it will deliberate on the Ao Senden’s next course of action.
