Apex Ao Church body denounce transport, sale of liquor

Mokokchung, November 5 (MExN): The Ao Baptist Churches Association (ABAM) has denounced the transportation and sale of liquor which, they have said, “destroys thousands of precious life”.

In a press release from ABAM Social Concern Committee Convenor, I. Meren Pongener, ABAM has appreciated and commended the interception by 31 Assam Rifles, Tuli Town Warn Union elders, students and church elders on October 2 of the large scale transportation of liquor on Amguri-Mokokchung Road (NH 61).

In the 2011 Annual council, said the press release, ABAM has resolved to eradicate alcoholism in their society within 10 years’ time. Towards this, the ABAM had framed strategies, leading up to a movement that was launched in February 28 this year. Since liquor is prohibited through Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989, ABAM has requested all concerned government agencies, village and town councils, competent authorities, churches and public “to participate in this big task of freeing our land from the curse of the liquor”.
