APO calls for realistic approach to Karbi-Dimasa conflict

DIMAPUR OCT 28 (MExN): The Angami Public Organization, while vehemently condemning the killing of innocents in the clashes between the two communities of Karbi and Dimasa in Karbi Anglong, has called for initiation of ways to resolve differences and misunderstanding through amicable and peaceful approach. 

Stated in a release issued by TL Angami, Vice President and Press Secretary Kekhriengulie Linyu, the APO expressed pain at the violence and unfortunate upheaval between the closely settled communities, a next neighbor of the Angamis. Dismayed that innocent lives were being taken in the clashes, the APO stated that in such extreme step of violence, children and women, who were enemies to none, had to bear the brunt of ethnic violence and paid a heavy price this time too. “In a modern world there are conflicts among people everywhere but human realistic approach to problems can be resorted to (as in ) to resolve the present intra-tribal rivalry” the APO stated adding that there were competent authorities or courts to decide any differences according to the laws of the land.

The organization also appreciated the initiatives taken by the Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights, Manab Adhikari Sangram Samiti, Bodo Women Justice Forum, Karbi Students Association, All Dimasa Students union and others, to restore normalcy through diplomatic means. It also expressed appreciation to the relief teams from the Asian Baptist Federation and Oriental Theological Seminary for taking pains to visit the effected people with relief materials as well as the Christian Forum Dimapur’s effort to garner essential items to feed the hungry and dress the naked in the violence-torn areas. 

The APO also expressed solidarity with the victims of “this arson and rioting and shares empathy with the victims of the ethnic clashes”.
