APO golden jubilee to strengthen channel of peace and unity

Over 15,000 people from 104 villages to join celebration on April 8

On attainment of 50 glorious years, the Angami Public Organization (APO) is all set to celebrate Golden Jubilee on April 8 at Khuochiezie (Kohima Local Ground) from 10:30 AM onwards. The celebration will be held under the theme “Angamimia Therhu (Sense of honour among the Angamis).”

APO was formed in 1972 with Zapuvisie Lhousa as the first president. 

Addressing a press conference at APO office here this afternoon, APO Golden Jubilee Organizing Committee, convenor, K Neibou Sekhose informed that apart from merry making and feast at the main celebration on April 8, ‘the main aim of the celebration is to usher forgive and forget the past misdeeds and strengthen the channel of peace and unity and to do something good to the society.’

He also informed that the yearlong APO golden jubilee celebration was launched in October 2021 wherein series of events/activities have been carried out. In the name of the golden Jubilee, APO will build “Nousi Ki’ where every Angami household will contribute Rs 50 each to have a sense of ownership to this common property. Tree plantation will be carried out. Everyone has been requested to plant a tree each.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will be the special guest while guest of honours will includes Dr Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, Advisor Urban Development & Muncipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, Advisor Excise, Sericulture & Minority Affairs, Er Zale Neikha, Advisor Youth Resources & Sports, Medo Yhokha, Advisor Technical Education and Election, MLA Khriehu Liezietsu, MLA Keneizhakho Nakhro and Dr Shürhozelie Leizietsü, former Chief Minister, Nagaland.

During the press conference, APO President Razouvotuo Chatsu informed that delegates from all four ranges of Angamis (Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO), Northern Angami Public Organization (NAPO), Western Angami Public Organization (WAPO) and Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) will join the celebration. 

He said that around 15,000 people from 104 villages of Angamis will be part of the celebration.

During the celebration, all the former presidents of APO will be honoured in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the Angami community. Former presidents will also address the gathering.

For traffic management, Sekhose said that APO has already contacted SP Kohima and traffic personnel to ease traffic problem on that day.

Every Angami government or private servants have been asked to take one day leave on April 8.

Meanwhile, there will be unity dance during the celebration to reflect a sense of one mind and one soul.
