APO urges CS for quality construction & continuous connectivity of NH 29

DIMAPUR, APRIL 13 (MExN): The Angami Public Organization (APO) has sought the intervention of the Nagaland Chief Secretary on what it termed as matters of public concern in connection to the construction quality, safety and uninterrupted connectivity of the NH-29 between Dimapur and Kohima.

The APO in the letter written to the Chief Secretary through its president Kepelhousie Terhüja and general secretary Neisakholie Ziephrü urged the latter to ensure that the four-lane connectivity of NH-29 between Dimapur and Kohima, which is underway after more than a decade, adhere to the National Highway standard specifications as provided to all other states. The APO maintained that it has over the past few years spoken to numerous officers of the BRO and other organizations, all of which has said that the National Highways in Nagaland are made just to facilitate the connectivity of security forces and not as per National Highway standards.

Moreover, with the monsoon starting, the APO expressed apprehension that with the change and increase in precipitation and moisture, NH 29 will fall prey to numerous mud slides and landslides. It highlighted that the stretch from Patkai to Piphema which consists of mostly steep rocky hills can turn out to be dangerous for vehicles.

The timely construction before or after the monsoons holds the key to safety along this particular stretch, the APO stated, while insisting that the Chief Secretary direct all the concerned companies, contractors etc. to ensure the safety of vehicles and also the continuous connectivity of Kohima and Dimapur.

The APO also expressed concern over the pollution caused by the ongoing NH-29 four lane constructions. While highlighting the above, it solicited the Chief Secretary to take up the necessary action.
