The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Zunheboto, has strengthened its monsoon disaster preparedness by assigning administrative officers to different colonies and directing all concerned departments to remain vigilant for emergency response and restoration works.
The decisions were taken during an emergency coordination meeting held on July 29 at the Office Chamber of the Deputy Commissioner under the chairmanship of DC and DDMA Chairman Dharam Raj, IAS. The Chairperson welcomed the members and briefed them on the district's monsoon disaster preparedness and the responsibilities of various departments.
During the meeting, the NST Station Superintendent was directed to ensure that the district helipad remains well-maintained and fully operational at all times to facilitate emergency operations. The Home Guards & Civil Defence (HG&CD) and Fire & Emergency Services were also instructed to remain on constant alert and prepared for any emergency situation.
The Urban Development Department (UDD) was entrusted with the responsibility of clearing urban flooding, unclogging drainage systems, and maintaining town roads in coordination with the Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC) for speedy execution of the works.
The meeting further directed the PWD (NH), PHED, NHIDCL, and other concerned departments to regularly update the progress of restoration works during DPDB meetings and through the Zunheboto DDMA WhatsApp Group for effective monitoring and review.
Emphasizing the need for collective responsibility, the Chairperson stated that disaster mitigation and response should not be the sole responsibility of the District Administration. All departments were instructed to remain vigilant, discharge their assigned responsibilities, and nominate dedicated officers to coordinate disaster response and restoration activities during emergencies.
To ensure effective damage assessment and verification of disaster-affected areas, the DDMA assigned administrative officers to oversee specific colonies in Zunheboto Town. Akumlong Amer, EAC (HQ) Zunheboto has been assigned DC Hill East, DC Hill West, South Point East, South Point West, and Amiphoto colony. Tsoinchu Sangtam, EAC (HQ) Zunheboto will oversee North Point, Khuwaboto, Old Town, and Laghilato colony, while Chuchong Noklang, EAC (HQ) Zunheboto has been assigned Alahuto, New Colony, Project East, and Project West colony.
The Chairperson also informed the meeting that immediate assistance to eligible disaster-affected families may be provided through the Emergency Relief Fund (ERF) wherever admissible
