
Viswema, January 10 (DIPR): Parliamentary Secretary for IPR and Economics & Statistics, Er Kropol Vitsu today expressed regret that many government schools go dilapidated owing to public apathy and administrative neglect. He narrated that often, in such situations, the blame is on the Government and the Department, or the people who are responsible give "lame excuses."
The parliamentary secretary was speaking at the inauguration of new building of Government Middle School, K. Khel, Viswema. The school which was upgraded to Middle School in 2010 was accorded a sanction of Rs. 17,19,000 for construction of a CGI sheet new building. The land was donated free of cost by the villagers, who also contributed Rs. 24,500, for the construction of the building into an RCC.
Er. Kropol expressed happiness to witness the huge gathering, which reflected solidarity over political differences. He urged the denizens of Viswema Village, VEC and the Managing Board to ensure proper running of the school by maintaining the building and enforcing regular and quality teaching by the teachers. He expressed optimism that the public, faculty and students would reciprocate to the benevolence of the government and the department.
Er. Kropol stated that much better results are expected from government schools, since the teachers are paid much higher than their private counterparts and are made eligible only after possessing high requisite qualifications. He reminded the gathering on the great importance of education today.
The MLA, who is from the village, shared his concern over issues of public interest pertaining to economic capability of the community by wise utilization of wealth, good savings and investments. He also urged for urgency of concern from the community regarding recognition of ‘Kirha Village’ in Dimapur, since the village was established even before statehood.
Director of School Education Saveyi Nyekha exhorting the community requested for greater awareness and support. He cited how people place their demands for construction of schools, appointment of teachers and staff, but fail to reciprocally ensure efficiency in performance of teachers and staff or fail to safeguard and maintain the assets. He enlightened the gathering that the ‘Anganwadi’ centres are to perform the basic education of children in literacy.
He urged the village authorities to lay greater attention to government schools and urged the government teachers not to feel inferior or proud, but be exemplary persons.
The Director was of the opinion that, the public can play crucial role in improving the government schools. He informed the gathering that the public should be taught what RTE Act says on compulsory education upto class eight and village authority must take up the responsibility.
Puvil Kikhi, a senior officer of the community exhorted the community as guest of honour. He fully endorsed the views of the Director of School education on the expected role of the community. He added that the school building has been inaugurated but students must be enrolled. However, the enrollment will increase only if it shows results, for which, he opined, ensuring regularity and sincerity of quality teachers is the solution.
