With Diwali just round the corner and enthusiastic people flocking the market buying decorative pieces, Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation & Flood Control, Tovihoto Ayemi made a strong appeal to the people to strive for unity and equality.
Addressing Deepawali Mela organized by Lions Club Dimapur at Lions Centre Midland on Sunday, Tovihoto noted the gathering of people from all hues, haves and haves not, creed, colour and said, “This gathering of people of every hue is a symbol of strength with no discrimination and it should reflect the value of equality. Let there be no discrimination on any basis in the society and let equality prevail.”
He called upon the people to think of the values that unite them as they strive to bring up children to strengthen families, to strengthen societies and build a better world.
Extending Diwali wishes to the gathering, Tovihoto told the gathering that as they celebrate the triumph of light over darkness, it was also a time to think of the importance of community living since different communities were gathered for the occasion. “If you have come here with values of harmonious co-existence, then certainly you are making a huge contribution to the society and we should celebrate this contribution too,” he added.
He lauded the Lions Club of Dimapur, Leo Club and Blue Vanda for the various charitable activities undertaken throughout the year helping the poor and downtrodden.
“At this time, let us celebrate the commitment of Lions Club towards charitable works and build strong relationship between our peoples,” he added.
During the programme Tovihoto was also inducted as a member of Lions Club Dimapur.
Advisor Urban Development, S.I. Jamir who also attended the programme gave away prizes to winners of peace poster contest along with the chief guest and his wife Amitoly. Lions Club Dimapur President, Ravi delivered the welcome address.
Hit the Tin, Ring Throwing, Air Gun shooting, Tambola etc were some of the games played during the Deepawali mela.
