Dimapur, July 20 (MExN): The Karate Team of the Assam Rifles returned to ARTC & S, Shokhuvi, Nagaland as overall champions from the 4th All India Open Invitational Karate Championship conducted under the aegis of the All India Karate Federation at the Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi on July 15 and 16. The team bagged six gold, three silver and six bronze medals in the championship to claim the title of overall champions. Delhi state team claimed the runners-up title. In all, 17 teams representing various states and Central Police participated in the event. The gold medalists are: Irene Lalchhahimi (Indl KATA), Chavan Dattatray (Indl KATA), Sandeep Kumar (below 67 kg), Chandan Mochari (below 75 kg), Chavan Pavan (below 84 kg) and Suresh Kumar (above 84 Kg). The silver medal winners are: Wangkhom Sumpa (below 50 kg), H Geetchandra ( below 55 kg) and R K Jamatia (below 60 Kg). The bronze medalists are: L Molsom (below 50 kg), Ganggam Tangjang (below 55 kg), Narayan Hadalgekar (below 60 kg), R Puia (below 67 kg), Rakesh Dewan (below 75 kg), and Gadkari Mohan (above 84 kg). The Assam Rifles team was led by manager cum coach L/Hav Satendra.
