Kohima, December 2 (MExN): The Assam Rifles observed World AIDS Day on December 1 at the HQ IGAR (North) and Sector HQs and Units across 74 locations covering the length and breadth of Nagaland 2017.
HQ IGAR (North) and its units have been undertaking campaigns to create awareness about HIV AIDS since June 2017. The activities have ranged from Awareness Rallies, Lectures, Screening and Medical Camps, Seminars in collaboration with NGOs, Screening of documentaries and movies.
To commemorate World AIDS Day, a special impetus and focus was given by way of organizing special events simultaneously in all the locations of Assam Rifles in the state. Also displaying solidarity to the cause, the Assam Rifles also participated in various events organized by the state Government agencies.
In Kohima, the AR troops joined the local populace in a Walkathon organized by Department of Family Health & Welfare in Kohima from old MLA Hostel till High School Junction.
The 9 AR also conducted a vehicle rally from Chieswema town till Kisama through Kohima relaying the message of “No to HIV/AIDS” through banners and airing recorded messages.
The AR also organised similar programmes at various places in Kiphire, Wokha, Phek, Dimapur, Peren, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Zunheboto and Mon.
