Dimapur, April 28 (MExN): Six civilians, who were allegedly held captive by the NSCN-IM were rescued by the Assam Rifles during an operation launched in the early hours of April 28 in Dimapur.
According to a press statement issued by the Defence PRO, the civilians were abducted during different incidents by the NSCN-IM, between April 13 to 27 and ransom demanded from their family members. The rescued victims included a headmaster of a government high school in Kikruma, Phek, who was abducted on April 25. The Defence release held that all the individuals were confined in a house located at Bamunpukhuri, Dimapur.
Five persons, said to be cadres of the NSCN (IM) were also arrested during the raid, the press statement said. They were identified as Lt Khenito Assumi, 2nd Lt Neison, Lance Cpl Mughahuto, Sgt Chonpenthung Murry and Sgt Katoho Yeptho.
It was also alleged that the abducted civilians were kept chained for over 10 days before being rescued. They were all later handed over to the Dimapur police.
Meanwhile, another report stated that one Major of the NSCN-IM was also arrested during a separate raid. He was reportedly the commander and mastermind behind the abductions. The security forces also recovered counterfeit currencies worth Rs 43,500 (87 notes of Rs 500) as well.
