
DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 17 (MExN): The Assam Rifles (AR) today informed that it rescued two individuals from Yannyu Village who were allegedly abducted by the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) and also arrested one guide.
A press release from the 27 AR informed that armed cadres abducted the duo identified as Atua Konyak and Tingkon Konyak from Yannyu village on the intervening night of December 15-16 and "were planning to take them across the Indo-Myanmar Border for ransom money." A search and rescue operation was launched by the AR on December 16 morning, continuously tracking the armed cadres, it said.
At 9 AM on December 17, in the jungles near Nyasa and Wetting village along the Indo-Myanmar Border, armed cadres were detected. Upon being challenged, the cadres initiated gunfire towards the AR troops, the release said. The troops "retaliated in a controlled manner ensuring the safety of the abductees," it maintained. The operation culminated in the successful rescue, arrest of one guide, and recovery of one M-16 Rifle, three pistols, assorted ammunition, and uniform, it added.
