Dimapur, May 26 (MExN): In the 7th National Renbukan Karate Do-Championship, recently conducted at Doon Sports Academy Stadium, Dehradun from May 6 to 8 under the recognition of Governemt of India, Ministry of Sports Youth Affairs and Indian Olympic association; DGAR Karate Team achieved a major hallmark by ensuring clean sweep over the 14 rival participating teams from Chandigarh, Chhatisgarh, Delhi, Gujrat, Haryana, J & K, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, MP, Nagaland, Punjab, Tamilnadu, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
The Assam Rifles Karate Team bagged a total of 07 Gold Medal and 01 Bronze Medal with Rifleman Vanlalngheta (50 Kg), L/Havildar T Kiran Meitei (55 Kg), L/Hav K Dinesh Meitei (60 Kg), Rifleman P P Chavan (<65 Kg), L/Havildar Sanjeev Kumar (<75 Kg), Rifleman L Manaoton Singh (>75 Kg), clinching gold medals in KUMETE form and Rifleman A Rajesh Singh leading the tally in individual KATA form of this modern interpretation of traditional Japanese, “Shu, ha, Rl” art. The second and third positions were secured by teams from Punjab and Haryana respectively.
Lieutenant General Rameshwar Roy, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, DGAR conveyed his felicitations to the ‘team’ for adding on laurels to the glorious achievements of Assam Rifles.
